Going once... going twice.... and sold! What Marilyn fan doesn't dream of one day having an item that once belonged to the none other than Marilyn Monroe? I sure do! Although, I do still wish to one day own a piece of hers, I disagree with the selling of her personal belongings and this is why: 1) She stated so in her will:In Marilyn Monroe's last will and testament she stated, "I give and bequeath all of my personal effects and clothing to LEE STRASBERG, or if he should predecease me, then to my Executor hereinafter named, it being my desire that he distribute these, in his sole discretion, among my friends, colleagues and those to whom I am devoted." With this being stated, we can conclude that Marilyn Monroe did in fact want her personal effects and clothings to go to Lee Strasberg and if he died beforehand, to her "friends, colleagues and those to whom I am devoted." So, why did practically all of Marilyn's things end up being sold in auction? Well, with Marilyn having left her personal clothing and effects to Lee Strasberg after her passing, one thing was forgotten. Lee Strasberg could leave Marilyn's personal belongings to anyone of his choosing after his own passing. The day did come and Lee chose to give these items to his third and final wife, Anna Strasberg, whom Marilyn was reportedly not close to (Marilyn was however, more so close to Lee's second wife, Paula Strasberg). Anna Strasberg then allowed for these items to be sold in auction, for which she would receive a lofty profit for. I personally believe this was a very selfish thing for Ms. Strasberg to do. 2) It's Downright WrongEspecially with Marilyn practically stating in her will she did not want for her personal effects to be auctioned off and her overall being a very private person, it's almost painful to see these things she owned, with no intention of others seeing, being sold off. Nonetheless, I wouldn't like it if someone I hardly knew received all of the money. With all that being said, I would have hoped that Marilyn's personal items would have either stayed with the Strasbergs or have been dispersed among those close to Marilyn when there was still the chance.
